Description

Although the signpost at Belp train station shows the intermediate destination Chutze and the final destination Gerzensee for this hike, it indicates other routes. Initially, you should follow the direction to Tufternwald. Along Belpbergstrasse and then a short left turn, you reach the Gürbe and turn right onto the riverside path. At the Mühlematt school complex, turn left and ascend to the foot of the Belpberg through the winding route of the Riedli quarter. Here the signpost shows the next intermediate destination Tufterenwald. The route initially runs for about one kilometer along the forest edge on a flat path. Enjoy the view over the fertile plain of the Gürbe valley. Later, the path ascends in the forest. From the Tufterenwald signpost, keep on the path to Chutze. At the forest exit, the Chutzen appears, the highest point of Belpberg. Next to the rest area, a memorial stone commemorates the former US president John F. Kennedy. The memorial was inaugurated in the 1960s, during the Cold War. With good visibility, the panorama rewards you with views from the Jura over the hills of the western Emmental to the Pre-Alps and High Alps, making the effort and sweat of the ascent worthwhile. The remaining part of the hike is easy to find, follow the direction to Gerzensee. The remaining hiking hour is varied: sometimes flat, sometimes downhill, across pastures, through forest, along meadows, past two fire pits, and finally through the stately village of Gerzensee, reaching the Gerzensee Bären bus stop.
