Description

From the Pontenet train station, a small road leads up into the village and continues along the slope upwards. Outside the settlement area, you will soon be captured by the impressive silence and solitude of the Jura landscape. Wide pastures, mighty spruces and elongated hedges shape the character of the area. The hiking trail over the Pâturage du Droit to the neighbouring village of Champoz runs over the most varied terrain types: sometimes it winds over dense turf, sometimes it runs on a small road, then again it turns into a moss-covered gravel path. Champoz is still strongly shaped by agriculture today. Remarkable is the half dozen mighty fountains that stand close together on the short village street. South of the village centre, the hiking trail branches off to the left towards Pâturage de Mont Girod and initially leads with a steep, then gentle ascent onto the plateau characterised by pasture land and sparse tree cover. Magnificent views are also granted by the gentle descent over the pastures: to the south lies the Montoz, to the west the Moron, and in between the broad Vallée de Tavannes. At point 933 you turn towards a ravine and descend steeply past the Mont Girod farm, skimming the small Lac Vert (not accessible) in the forest, down into the long stretched village of Court.
