Description

The Aare, the Nidau-Büren Canal, nature reserves, bridge villages, the stork colony in Altreu, and the baroque town of Solothurn are the highlights on this leisurely bike route. The starting point is the watchmaking metropolis Biel. You ride past the Häftli nature reserve, which stretches around the old course of the Aare. In the Häftli, a short stop is definitely worthwhile to climb the wooden observation tower. From there, you can admire many water birds such as mallards, great crested grebes, grey herons, coots, and moorhens.

In the charming little town of Büren an der Aare, you will discover a variety of sights, such as the mighty wooden bridge that connects both banks of the Aare. And in Grenchen, you will surely spot one or another light aircraft taking off and landing at the nearby airfield. The route then runs nicely flat to the stork mecca of Altreu. At a visit to the Witi information center, you will learn more about the likeable migratory birds as well as the nature and landscape of the Aare plain. In Solothurn, you will encounter baroque facades, picturesque alleys, and numerous inns.
