Description

Through dynamic floodplains, the route goes from Aarau towards the cantonal center. From afar, the baroque Wildegg Castle estate can already be seen, looming over the village of the same name. The historic garden and the castle bistro invite you to a relaxing break with a wonderful panorama.

The route leads along riverside paths, past the Schinznach thermal bath, where Switzerland's strongest sulfur spring emerges, and Habsburg Castle, the ancestral seat of a world power. In Brugg, more historical witnesses await, reflecting on the eventful era of the Romans. The water castle of Switzerland, where the Aare, Reuss, and Limmat converge, offers a unique river landscape recognized as a floodplain of national significance. Here, 40% of Switzerland's total water flow merges.

Cycling through charming villages and idyllic riverside landscapes, you soon reach the Klingnau reservoir, an internationally important waterbird protection area. The final section invites you to end the journey leisurely pedaling.
