Description
Solothurn was founded 2000 years ago by the Romans at a narrow point of the Aare. The easy hike connects the cantonal capital with the watchmaking town of Grenchen. The locals say the river has a typical scent in every season. Lifeline. Past the Krummturmschanze and the Schiffländte, you walk westward. From the pedestrian bridge, the old town makes a popular photo subject. At Camping TCS, the old city compost is buried in the ground. It is now finally to be renovated. Until the Lehmann boatyard, you leave the Aare shore for the first time. The Selzacher Witi is used agriculturally and is home to an increasing hare population. The new observation tower near Altreu invites birdwatching. In the stork village of Altreu, all nests are occupied in spring. The BSG ships stop here. A ferry crosses the river. Leaving Altreu, you leave the Aare for a second time until Bettlach. In the north, the 1st Jura chain spectacularly forms the horizon. Shortly before the destination, you pass the A5 motorway. The Fischerhaus restaurant invites you to stop by. The boat takes you back to Solothurn at a leisurely pace.
