Description

It stretches on, one more curve, then one more step, and suddenly it is there: Surrounded by Alps, rocks, and much scree, Meiefallseeli greets the hikers sometimes green, then shimmering blue, and when clouds rise over Honiesen, it ripples gray. The small mountain lake far back and high up in the Diemtigtal does not shy away from charm, but the path there is more than a walk. Those arriving by post bus start at the stop Horboden/Chirel. The hike begins with a varied ascent towards Rothbad. From Hormatti to Pletschen, the route mostly runs on hard surfaces, then it continues over an alpine path, alpine meadows, and wooded sections up to Under Meiefall. From there, a mountain path leads to the huts and alpine farms at Ober Meiefall. Springs and small streams bubble from the ground, the view stretches to the nearby Wiriehorn and the distant Stockhorn chain – an impressive panorama. A final ascent to 1902 meters follows, where the view of Meiefallseeli delights even from afar. The mountain panorama is reflected in the usually crystal-clear water resting in a basin interspersed with rocks and scree. After the long climb, one is almost tempted to jump in. But the water is usually icy cold. In the mountain spring and autumn, this place is also lonely and quiet; in alpine summer one shares the beautiful spot with cattle and the ringing of cowbells. Those who can tear themselves away from the idyll return on the same path back to Under Meiefall. From there, the path towards Springenboden can be chosen. However, here too, a longer stretch on hard surface must be covered. As a reward, inviting opportunities for refreshment await at Springenboden. Then follows the final descent back to the starting point in the valley. Text: Godi Huber
