Best Time of Year
Description
The panoramic hike leads from Prätschli first through the open forest to the upper Prätschsee. Not far from the lake is the historic Guisanplatz. General Henri Guisan (1874–1960) attended a 1st of August celebration here during the Second World War and inspected his troops during a sporting competition. A memorial plaque on a rock today commemorates the historical event on site. On the way to Prätschalp you hike with views of the alpine settlement Medergen, the Weissfluhjoch, and the high valleys Sapün and Fondei. The alpine pasture Prätsch, now reached, has a usable area of 250 hectares and is owned by the Chur citizens' community. Around 100 cows from Chur farmers are summered here every year. Over the viewpoint Rot Tritt, the path now winds somewhat more steeply up to the Scheidegg. Over this highest point of the hike with views over the Schanfigg, you return to Prätschli.
