Description
From Giswil station, the hike leads to the northern end of the village and further to the Zollhaus inn.
Via the south exit of the motorway tunnel, you reach the Tobelsträsschen. Follow this uphill until it bends into the narrow gorge. Deep below, the water of the small Melchaa rushes, forcing its way through narrow rock basins. At Cholplatz, there is a shelter and a signboard that informs about the interesting localities and their stories, which you pass one after the other in the Tobel: Bettlernest, Dom, Giswiler Hüttli Lochcheller, Tuffgräben, Lengbrügg up to the endpoint 977 of the winter hike at the Rindenhüttli.
Here the path branches and in summer continues uphill to the center of Switzerland at Älggi. The winter hike returns the same way back through the Tobel and down through the Grossmattwald; also a popular sledding path – to the Zollhaus and under the road to the lakeside path. Heading south, you return along the small Melchaa, which was redirected directly into Lake Sarnen in 2015, back to Giswil. As a variant, you can also hike north along the lakeside path to the Ewil Maxon station or to Sachseln.
