Wasseramt Route No. 802: From Solothurn to Herzogenbuchsee

As the name suggests, on the 13-kilometer-long Wasseramt Route from Solothurn to Burgäschisee you encounter the theme of water in many forms. There is a lot to discover on this leisurely bike ride: a hybrid power plant, a panoramic water tower, and even prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements. Before starting the route, it's worth wandering through the alleys of the Baroque town of Solothurn. Its landmark is the St. Ursen Cathedral. 249 steps lead up to the tower and a wide panoramic view.

Burgäschisee, as well as the neighboring Inkwilersee, are both characterized by extensive reed belts and corresponding populations of water birds and dragonflies. For those who want to get off the bike and go on foot: The Kraftort Path leads as a circular hike from Burgäschisee to impressive places considered power spots. These include the Steinhof Marian Chapel, the late Gothic Martinskirche Seeberg (with a 500-year-old lime tree), and the 'Grossen Flue,' the third largest erratic boulder in Switzerland.
