Views of the Appenzeller Hinterland

This moderate cross-border snowshoe route takes you in about 2.5 hours from Innerrhoden's Jakobsbad with the famous Leiden Christi monastery to the beautiful Ausserrhoden village of Urnäsch with its charming village square and various opportunities to warm up at a stopover.

Along the way, the highest point of the route, Zimmermannslauftegg, offers impressive views of the Appenzeller Hinterland. From here, you follow the prepared winter hiking trail with Kronberg and the mighty Säntis always at your back. A detour to the Berggasthaus Osteregg is recommended for a warming break.
