Description

Riggisberg houses the Abegg Foundation. Its purpose is to collect, research and preserve historic textiles. The area is said to have been inhabited since Roman times. The two municipalities Wattenwil and Riggisberg see themselves as regional centers where various businesses offer their services. At the starting point in Riggisberg, follow the direction to Wattenwil. Shortly after leaving the village, a stream accompanies the hikers. The path seems to lead straight to the Stockhorn. At Untere Elbschen, turn right and leave the Jakobsweg. Through a small valley, you reach the highest point of the hike near Fluhweid on a forest road. On a nearby hill, Burgistein Castle can be seen. It dates in its current form from the 17th century and is privately owned. The next section over Grundbach to point 890 fully lives up to the name Höhenweg: the view sweeps over the upper Gürbetal, the Stockental, the hills of the western Emmental to the high Alps. Later, Lake Thun can also be seen. After Grundbach, a panorama board on the hiking trail facilitates naming the over 60 peaks. From here it goes downhill along field and footpaths as well as roads to Wattenwil. Past the church, you reach the destination at the Wattenwil Postgasse bus stop.
