Description
This feeder starts in the largest city of the canton of Solothurn, in Olten. Do not be discouraged by the commuter flows and the modern "new town," as there are historical traces to discover here as well. Not far from the station towards the old town, you already encounter the historic wooden bridge. It was a key point on the main road from Olten to Aarburg and was first mentioned in 1295. Over the course of history, the bridge burned down several times. The current wooden bridge was built in 1803. In the small but charming old town, the Oltner city tower catches the eye. The old, oldest "city church" in the heart of the old town, demolished in 1844, was dedicated to St. Martin, the city's patron saint. Behind the old town stands today's St. Martin's Church with its two dark spires. From Olten, the path leads over the Homberg into the BLN area Belchen-Passwang to the Belchensüd military road. This is a relic from the time of the First World War, as are the numerous trenches and bunkers, often converted into weekend houses in this area. The ascent to Belchenflue via a short stone staircase is definitely worth it because of the magnificent view. The summit is also regarded as a place of power and an important reference point in the Celtic measurement system. From Belchenflue, it continues to Chilchzimmersattel and over the Lauchflue, Schattenberg down to Schöntal Monastery. Here it is worth visiting the gallery, monastery courtyard, and sculpture path. International artists have created works for the site that symbiotically unite history, art, and nature. From Schöntal Monastery with its two atmospheric guest rooms, you reach the mountain pass village of Langenbruck with further accommodation options within fifteen minutes. A short detour to the well-preserved "Roman road" located right above the Upper Hauenstein is worthwhile. The route from Oensingen via Upper Hauenstein to Liestal is a section of the great Roman transversal that led from Lake Geneva via Avenches/Aventicum, Studen/Petinesca, Solothurn/Salodurum to Augst/Augusta Raurica on the Rhine.
