Description
Seewen itself already has a lot to offer. For example, the Museum of Mechanical Music is a highlight of this stage. Here, you are enchanted by the sounds of Swiss music boxes, disc music boxes, clocks and jewelry with musical works, and other mechanical music instruments from the 18th century to the present day. The museum houses the world's largest and most famous collection of mechanical music instruments. From Seewen, you quickly reach Baslerweiher. Here, a viewing bench invites you to observe various bird species such as grey heron, mallard, and water rail. You cross the Seebach and the main road to reach the sawmill. The path leads over the meadow up into the Betenbergwald. Here, you first circumnavigate the southern part of Betenberg and then the Holzenberg. Then you follow a short section of the paved Ziefenertrasse to the left and enter the "Schweiniwald." To the right, you turn into a small street and then follow the narrow but well-walkable path over the Lucheren-Matte. From the Eich signpost, the path leads past the Bärsberg and Zapfholdern farms to Reigoldswil. Reigoldswil is known for its trimmings houses. Trimmings refer to silk ribbon weaving, which was the main source of income in the Basel region until the early 20th century. Home trimming was strongly rooted in Reigoldswil. The weaving of ribbons is vividly presented in the local museum "auf Feld" in Reigoldswil on an original, loudly rattling ribbon loom. Around the valley station of the Reigoldswil cable car, you can still see traces of the construction of the Reigoldswil-Mümliswil railway tunnel, started in 1873 but never completed. For example, the closed tunnel portal behind the valley station. Those who want to take it easy can take the cable car to Wasserfallen here. Others follow the path further, past the Vogelmatt farm, along the Glattenberg, over Schelmenloch, above the Bärengraben to Wasserfallen.
