Description
Axalp is a district in the exclave Oltschern of the municipality of Brienzwiler. At the starting point of the hike, the Axalp Kurhaus bus stop, the indication Hinterburgseeli points the way to take. From tree stumps left by storm Lothar in 1999, 13 wood sculptors have carved over 90 figures. These line the section to Hinterburgseeli, also called the Schnitzlerweg. The romantic lake is a popular destination for young and old alike. Then a climb through forest towards Uf der Flue follows. After a short stretch of hard surface, the route descends through a pasture, marked by red – white – red painted poles. Above Uf der Flue, the route branches off from the path to Zaun Meiringen and climbs over 300 meters in elevation on a path towards Urserli and Chruttmettli. The view sweeps over Lake Brienz to Brünig Pass and Lake Lungern. Along the slope, with some exposed spots, Hinterburgseeli appears deep below after a bend. Between Urserli and Chruttmettli, the zig-zag shaped hiking trail Hinterburgseeli – Chruttmettli becomes visible. At Chruttmettli, you descend through an alpine pasture to Farnigen and return on part of the already walked Schnitzlerweg to the Axalp Kurhaus bus stop.
