Via Bregaglia 3rd stage: Soglio - Chiavenna

Our tips for the stage:

• Soglio: Arrival in Soglio feels like a dream. Discover the many faces of this historic mountain village.

• Chiavenna: Stroll through the historic old town and treat yourself to an espresso or a gelato at the end.

The first part of the hike leads through the chestnut forest, directly below Soglio (Plazza and Brentan), with its beautiful old trees. The chestnut groves are still lovingly maintained today, and in autumn the annual Festival della Castagna takes place. Castasegna is also the last village on Swiss soil; beyond it, you can feel the distinctly Italian flair of Val Bregaglia. The hike ends in Chiavenna, "the key to the Alps." The small town was already an important center for the Romans on the journey to the Rhine basin. Today it is a flourishing tourist and cultural town with an extraordinarily well-preserved historic town center.
