Via Alta Vallemaggia - 2nd stage: Capanna Alpe Nimi - Rifugio Alpe Masnee

After a final farewell in Nimi, the route returns to the main ridge to cross the first massive mountain of our journey, the rocky Madom da Sgiof. A narrow ridge and short scrambling passages put us to the test, but some handholds help to master the most difficult spots elegantly. 

The Passo Deva, a wide saddle between Maggia and Brione, is perfect for a longer rest. The stage is short, there is no rush. On the right, beyond the Verzasca, rises the incredible shark fin of Poncione d'Alnasca; on the left, the view disappears in the many folds of the Valle del Salto. Last but not least, the Alpe Masnee awaits us, an eagle's nest made from once dilapidated barns. The successful repurposing of this former alpine pasture shows by example how well preservation and renewal, sustainable eco-tourism, and monument protection can be combined.
