Via Alta Vallemaggia - 1st stage: Cimetta-Capanna Alpe Nimi

One could in principle start right from the shore of Lake Maggiore at Locarno, at barely 200 meters altitude. Yet a funicular, an aerial cableway, and a chairlift spare us the first 1500 meters of ascent. The experience of the Via Alta Vallemaggia thus begins on the panoramic Cimetta – a summitlet compared to what still awaits us. After a leisurely pause, we turn our backs on the bustling lakescape of the Verbano and set off on the great adventure that will lead us directly into the heart of the Ticino Alps over several days. The first stage presents itself as a worthy start, a long ride over ridges and slopes between Vallemaggia and Verzasca. At the end of a memorable day, the Capanna Nimi welcomes us, where two ancient, precious alpine traditions are lived and cherished: goat farming and hospitality.
