Description
The 78 km circular route starts and ends in Locarno. The path follows Lake Maggiore to Brissago and crosses the border into Italy. The road is very narrow in some parts and there is heavy incoming traffic during peak hours. About twenty kilometers separate us from Cannobio, the charming fishing village directly on the lake. Following the Cannobino river, the route turns into Valle Cannobina. As soon as you enter the valley, the climb begins through dense forests and tight hairpin bends. Valle Cannobina is a wild, very green, and steep valley. From Malesco, the route leads through the Valley of the Painters, or Valle Vigezzo, heading back toward Switzerland. In Re you cycle around the impressive cathedral. From the Swiss border, the valley is called Centovalli and returns to Locarno along a winding road. It is better to avoid the road during peak hours. Lights are essential as there are several unlit tunnels.
