Vättis - Salaz - St.Margrethenberg

Starting at the Cholhüttenau sports field, the path initially leads through dense beech forest over the Schröterhütten to the hunting lodge at Guaggis. Over partially open alpine pastures and light fir forest, we reach the Alp Salaz with a gentle ascent. Alp Salaz is a fertile high terrace above the deeply incised Tamina valley. There is an almost dizzying deep view to the village of Vättis. Less frightening is the view southwards into the Rhine Valley and Prättigau. On the steep mountain slopes of the Calandamassiv, the first wolf pack in Switzerland has become native again since the extermination of the wolf in the 19th century.
