Description

In the heart of Switzerland lie the Urner Alps. The area owes its name to the oldest Swiss canton, Uri. Our glacier route begins in the somewhat lower eastern part on the border with the Rhaeto-Romance Graubünden. Via the surprisingly green Maderaner and Brunnital valleys you cross to the western part, which is higher and more glaciated. Now we walk over extensive glaciers and snowfields. The surroundings of the Tierberglihütte are breathtaking: an island in a white world. We hike via a crossing of the Sustenpass towards Amsteg. The Urner Alps are relatively quiet, allowing nature to come into full effect.
