Description

We hike uphill on the driveway towards Quarten. At the small bridge, we take the hiking trail that leads us directly to the parish church St. Gallus of Quarten, built in 1862. Continuing uphill, we pass the municipal house to Afadella, then briefly follow the scenic road towards Murgsee. This small detour rewards us with a unique view of the Churfirsten rising steeply on the opposite shore. Below us, on the lake, lies Murg, opposite the sunny Quinten. In the Neubruchwald forest, we branch off towards Tasten, then cross the Murgbach on a curved bridge. If there is plenty of water flowing, a short detour to the nearby waterfall is worthwhile. Through the shaded forest, we reach Guflen, then descend steeply through the Scheeliwald to the Rotbach, which forms the border to the canton of Glarus. We then hike uphill to Erggeli and on a scenic path to Geissegg. Down by the lake lies Teufwinkel; further ahead, the church of Mühlehorn greets us, built in 1760 by the well-known architect Johann Ulrich Grubenmann from Teufen. Our hike leads us across the Meerenbach to Walenguflen and Obstalden. High on the right lies the dispersed village of Amden, above which rise Mattstock and Speer. Passing the playground at Rüttegg, we hike to Filzbach. We descend to the stream of the same name, then ascend again to the village. Excavations in 1959 uncovered remains of a Roman watchtower from the 1st century BC. Passing the post office and the Lihn holiday home, we descend partly steeply to the Linth canal, which we follow to the old railway bridge. Along the shore, past the campsite, the Schiffshab, and the lido, we reach Weesen station. A detour into the town is worthwhile.
