Description
The hike leads from ARA Arosa leisurely along the wild Welschtobel stream through the light forest, deeper into the Welschtobel. Soon you reach the small wooden bridge (left), over which you reach the left side of the valley. Continue to the junction for the small Alteiner waterfall. The path to the small waterfall leads left over somewhat rocky but not very steep terrain. The small waterfall can be admired up close, and the moist spray rises to your face. The same path leads back to the junction, where you turn right to continue to the large waterfall. It soon becomes a bit steeper, always heading toward the rock face, through blueberry bushes, dwarf pines, and a forest. At the Alteiner waterfall/Alteinsee junction, there is a bench to rest. From this spot, you have a beautiful view into the Isla. Shortly after, you stand at an abyss, and the view sweeps deep into the gorge to the roaring stream, higher up the water plunges down. Nature impressively displays its strength here. After admiring the spectacle for some time, away from everyday life, you return on the same path to the wooden bridge. However, you no longer cross it but follow the path on this side of the stream through the Islawald. There are many fire pits here for a cozy picnic. Those who are attentive discover large bushes of the protected lady's slipper orchid here in early summer. You return over the suspension bridge back to Arosa.
