Description
In midwinter, the high peaks of the Blüemlisalp in the east as well as the Fründenhorn and Doldenhorn in the south ensure that hardly a sunbeam reaches the valley basin. The Oeschinen Lake is therefore somewhat like a piece of the Arctic in the Bernese Oberland. A mighty ice layer covers the lake surface. Provided there has been a sufficiently long preceding cold period, the lake can usually be entered without problems. Good and warm winter hiking boots are mandatory.
During the "Ice Walk" you must observe the release of the frozen lake and the avalanche bulletin; see current operating status on our website, info screens, and information boards in the area.
