Description

The route called Rebenweg begins at the bus terminus Rebenweg in Vingelz. The first section of about 1 km runs through forest. Afterwards, the hike leads over agricultural paths past the villages of the hamlets Tüscherz, Wingreis, and Twann. The view of Lake Biel and the city of Biel is fascinating; later the view opens up to Saint Peter's Island and the Jolimont. Shortly after Twann, the Twannbach Gorge beckons. You stay on the Rebenweg. It is now marked as a vine educational trail. Several information boards provide interesting facts about wine and vines. Shortly thereafter, the church of Ligerz appears. It is a popular excursion destination and is also regarded as a landmark of the area. After a short descent, you reach the well-preserved winemakers' village of Ligerz. A visit is worthwhile not only because of the Treber sausages. The sausages are cooked during the distillation of marc and served with potato salad. For those who want to learn more about viticulture, a visit to the viticulture museum “Hof” in Ligerz is recommended. In winter, the museum opens only on request and for groups.
