Description

On this bike ride around Lake Thun, the deep blue lake reveals itself from different perspectives again and again. The loop leads from Sigriswil to Oberhofen and then via Hünibach to Thun. Along the way, you pass idyllic villages, green meadows, and even historic buildings and castles. In the charming town of Thun, it’s worth making a short stop to recharge in one of the restaurants directly on the Aare. Continue via Gwatt and Spiez to Krattigen.

A challenging climb on a hiking trail follows, with a short staircase descent to the suspension bridge in Leissigen. The descent to Därligen is also not easy; it goes over roots and stones on a hiking trail with difficult obstacles. The bike must be pushed in places. Is that too demanding for you? Alternative: Avoid this stretch by cycling from Krattigen through the village of Leissigen to Därligen on the bike path along the main road.

After Unterseen, a short climb leads to the St. Beatus Caves, then on to Merligen and back to Sigriswil. The route mostly follows little-trafficked roads and natural paths, except between Sundlauenen (St. Beatus Caves) and Merligen. You’re guaranteed a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. Along the way, you will encounter two highlights: crossing the 340-meter-long and 180-meter-high panoramic suspension bridge in Sigriswil and the 142-meter-long suspension bridge in Leissigen.
