Description

In Biel-Madretsch through Blumenrain and Riedweg uphill to the edge of the Längholz forest. A hilltop above Zilwil offers a beautiful view of Orpund and Safnern, to Bütteberg and Schwadernau on the opposite canal bank. Now downhill to the Nidau-Büren Canal. Despite changes in use of the former monastery complex, Gottstatt is one of the most important historical monuments in the Biel area. The Premonstratensian monastery, founded in 1255 by Count Rudolf I of Neuchâtel-Nidau, soon became the endowed family monastery of the noble families of Nidau, Strassberg, and Aarberg. Along the straight canal path, continue to Safnerenbrügg. On the unfortunately rather busy riverside road, you reach the former confluence of the Zihl course with the Old Aare within a few minutes. For 300 m, follow the road towards Safnern, then a excellently laid out footpath swings to the bank of the Old Aare and opens up the most beautiful sections at Häftli. Water birds, water lilies, dragonflies, and diverse riverside trees delight along the way. Past Kybi Ranch, you reach the well-maintained fireplace Im Cheer. The village of Meinisberg is only grazed at the southern edge. Always following the course of the Old Aare, you reach the charming small town of Büren a.A. via the Büren swimming pool, Reiben, and the wooden covered Aare bridge.
