Three lakes route at Splügen Pass

The hike to the three lakes at Splügen Pass can be started individually at the Italian customs, a bit lower, or at Lago di Montespluga. We started the hike near the customs. It first goes gently down along the busy pass road to Lago di Montespluga. But here it goes steeply uphill. The view and panorama become more and more beautiful and spectacular with every step. Further up, the terrain changes to a scree slope that needs to be crossed. Climbing and scrambling are required. Not easy terrain. Surefootedness and good footwear are a must. The ascent is strenuous, but at the top you are rewarded with a fantastic view. Past Lago Azzurro, the route goes over scree down to Bergseeli. At the beginning, you also have to climb over large stones. The path becomes easier again at Bergseeli. From here, it zigzags back to the border crossing between Switzerland and Italy.
