Description
Continue by taking the road west towards the oratory of San Zeno (15th century), recently restored, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of the Vedeggio low plain. Chestnut trees dominate the woods below, but you can also find birch, locust, and lime trees. Then descend on the opposite side towards Origlio. Just above the village, you can visit the church of San Giorgio (15th/17th century), with its imposing unfinished façade without plaster, accessed via a scenic staircase. Once in Origlio, continue along the cantonal road towards Ponte Capriasca, where a visit to the church of S. Ambrogio is a must, featuring a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper fresco.
Opposite the schools, the Castagno Park extends over an area of two hectares. Set in various scenes, it includes a picnic area equipped for barbecues, the Crano biotope, and a playground. The biotope consists of a natural pool that collects water from the surrounding forest slopes with a temporary water regime. In the playground, there are swings, towers, rope bridges, checkers, and a mill table.
From Ponte Capriasca, the route continues towards Vaglio, where to the south lies the S. Clemente wood. Here stands the Redde tower (13th century), medieval in origin, which was part of a settlement complex including a village (Redde), the fortified house, and a church. Only some ruins of the village remain. However, the chapel of S. Clemente (13th century), located about 300 meters from the tower, still survives. Return to Origlio completing the circuit around the beautiful pond.
