summer resort in the Wild West

Description
When temperatures rise to 30 degrees or more in midsummer, hiking in the heights is recommended: on the mountains there is pleasant coolness and refreshing winds. But what to do if you wake up later, have enjoyed an especially extensive brunch, or simply don't want to travel far into the mountains? Then a walk through shady riparian forests is recommended, for example, the riverbank walk along Schwarzwasser and Sense. The route is lined with a number of idyllic swimming spots. Those who want to cool off on the way should therefore pack swimwear in their backpack. The Schwarzenburgerland can rightly be called the Wild West of the canton of Bern, and in a positive sense: the region has a distinctly rural character, is comparatively sparsely populated, and comprises extensive near-natural landscapes – from magnificent mixed forests over fertile grain and grassland to idyllic riparian areas. At the Schwarzwasserbrücke train station, cross the cantonal road and descend into the Schwarzwasser valley past the Schwarzwasserbrücke restaurant. At the old Schwarzwasserbrücke, stay on the left side of the stream, follow it to its confluence with the Sense, then proceed upstream along the Sense to the hanging bridge, where you cross the river. Now follows a wonderful riverside walk through cool riparian forests. Along the way, shallow riverbanks invite you to play by the water. Via Hangried, you reach the Riederenbrücke, where you leave the Fribourg side of the Sense and return to Bernese territory. Continuing along the Sense, you reach the railway viaduct, under which you pass before ascending to the Thörishaus village train station.
