Description
After breakfast at the Muttseehütte SAC (2501 m above sea level), another highlight follows: The Via Glaralpina leads over the new dam at Muttsee, which at over one kilometer length is the longest in Switzerland and the highest in Europe. The stage continues over rocky ground to the Kistenpasshütte SAC (2715 m above sea level // renovation in summer 2025). Like an eagle's nest, it perches on the rock – with views of the Limmernsee, Selbsanft, Bifertenstock, and Tödi. It's worth stopping by (closed in summer 2025 due to renovation), there are drinks and always a small, fine selection of food. From the Kistenpasshütte, the Via Glaralpina follows the white-blue-white markings up to the ridge of the Muttenberge. For the fantastic view into the canton of Graubünden, a short detour to the clearly visible summit cross of the Muttenberge (2898 m above sea level) is worthwhile. From the ridge, it goes towards Kistenpass (2640 m above sea level) and further to the Bifertenhütte AAC (2482 m above sea level). Ibexes are often observed here as well.
