Description
Arosa is the highest settlement in the Schanfigg. Once known as an air health resort, this traditional Grisons holiday destination has been part of the expanded Arosa Lenzerheide ski area with over 200 kilometers of slopes since early 2014. In the middle lies the Tschuggen, part of the central Plessur mountains and at the same time the starting point of the short sledding track to Innerarosa. From the popular viewpoint, the viewer enjoys a beautiful view of the Arosa mountains with Schafsrugg, Aroser Rothorn or Erzhorn, which is depicted on the municipality's coat of arms. The sledding track first leads southeast, past the astrophysical observatory that operated the ETH Zurich observatory here from 1939 to 2002. Now the sled approaches the legendary Tschuggenhütte, known especially for its après-ski atmosphere. Between Tschuggenhütte and the church there is a junction from which you can either continue to speed down to Innerarosa – or take the gondola back up to the start of the track or further to the Tschuggentor.
