Description

The Sihlsee winter hiking trail begins next to Einsiedeln Abbey, on the snowy meadow above the Brüel parking garage. Around 50 monks live in the traditional Benedictine abbey. The lively monastery square soon gives way to gentle landscape and contemplative calm. The prepared winter hiking trail leads over snowy meadows down to Lake Sihl and along the lake towards Badi Roblosen. At the opposite end of Switzerland’s largest reservoir, the Ybriger mountains rise into the sky.

On the way back, you can watch cross-country skiers gliding smoothly over the Schwedentritt trail. Along the way is the Galgenchappeli, next to which there used to be a place of execution. Those sentenced to death received their last blessing in the former chapel. Today it serves as a pilgrim’s weather shelter. The circular route ends again next to Einsiedeln Abbey, which is visited by many pilgrims as Switzerland’s most important pilgrimage site.
