Description
This hike pleases the eye and flatters the palate. Over a short distance of 10 km, you walk through idyllic vineyards and discover fine wines and delicious spirits along the way.
Important: This is not a guided route – tastings and tours must be arranged directly and individually with the wineries. Please observe their opening hours.
The first winery is located in Aesch LU – the historic Klosterhof winery. More than 400 years ago, grapes were grown here on behalf of the Benedictine monastery of Muri and the wine press building was established. Even today, it serves as the location for the in-house pressing facility. After Klosterhof, the route largely follows forest paths. Slightly off the route, shortly before Hitzkirch, you will find Stierlihof, where in the farm’s own contract distillery you can learn how fine brandies are produced.
Back on the original route, you hike through the Altwisertobel valley, past the Lourdes Grotto and then the Kommende Hitzkirch. Shortly after, you reach the Kaiserspan vineyard. For a long time, Kaiserspan was the only vineyard in the canton of Lucerne. Today the vineyard covers 5 hectares.
You stroll comfortably on to Heidegg Castle. The patrician castle with its romantic rose garden stands amidst a largely preserved park and cultural landscape of national significance. Below the castle is Heidegg Winery. More than 20 wines are produced here – some with regional rarity value. In addition to the wines, a variety of delicious spirits are also produced.
