Short route description of the circuit route
Brunnen - Urmiberg - Rigi-Scheidegg – Rigi Kaltbad
From Brunnen, the path leads towards Urmiberg. The approximately 600 metres of ascent can already be comfortably saved here with the aerial cableway. On foot, the mountain hiking trail first climbs steeply up to Stöck. From there, the path continues more gently along the hiking trail to Schrängiggen, from where it steadily ascends via Unter and Ober Brunniberg to the Urmiberg/Timpel restaurant. The view towards the Schwyz basin, Brunnen, and over the mountain-surrounded Lake Uri is impressive, and the cozy terrace of the restaurant invites you to linger. Refreshed, the path continues above the Urmiberg mountain station, always heading towards Gätterlipass. After half an hour, you can choose to walk directly to Egg or, which is recommended in good visibility, to the "Gottertli" viewpoint and then descend from there to Egg. Unique views of Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz and surrounding mountains. At Gätterlipass, the ascent to Rigi Scheidegg begins on a narrow path, slanting uphill to the ridge. 60 m below the Scheidegg, you reach the mountain inn Burggeist at 1545 m above sea level, and after a further 15 minutes, the mountain inn Rigi Scheidegg. From there, you wander comfortably downhill along the Rigi Panorama Trail to Hinter Dossen. Here, the lakeside path branches off. First, it descends about 100 metres to Oberstafel before merging into the path of natural treasures. The well-developed mountain path reaches the Rigi Panorama Trail again at Untersetten. Following this, you circumvent the Würzenstock, and the view stretches towards Rigi Kulm and the Mythen. Behind the Würzenstock, you have the option to continue hiking to Rigi Kaltbad-First via the impressive rock path or stay on the panorama path. Upon arrival at Rigi Kaltbad, the Mineral Bath & Spa Rigi Kaltbad invites you to relax your tired hiking muscles in warm water, as well as hotels and restaurants.
Rigi Kaltbad – Rigi Klösterli – Rigi Kulm - Goldau
Past the romantic rock chapel, the level path from Rigi Kaltbad leads through cozy forest sections, past interesting rock formations, to the magnificent Känzeli viewpoint. Here, a magnificent panoramic view opens up over the crossing funnel of Lake Lucerne, over Lucerne, and the crowning panorama of the Alps. In 1868, Queen Victoria of England visited this place and noted her enthusiasm in her diary. From here, you hike steadily uphill to Rigi Staffelhöhe to the Hotel Edelweiss. The path continues to Rigi Staffel, and after another 100 metres of ascent, you reach Rigi Kulm on well-developed paths. At the highest Rigi peak, a spectacular 360° panoramic view unfolds: the view stretches over 13 lakes and a sea of peaks. Did you know that on clear days, 24 of the 26 Swiss cantons can be seen from Rigi Kulm? From Rigi Kulm, you hike downhill behind the railway station past lush flower meadows to Alp Chäserenholz. At Alp Chäserenholz, the alpine herdsman offers his spicy alpine cheese, and the cheese dairy with its cheese cellar can also be visited. The path continues to Ober-Schwändi, where you turn right and continue towards Alp Trieb and Riedboden before arriving at Rigi Klösterli. In Rigi Klösterli, you have further dining and overnight options. From Rigi Klösterli, you hike downhill above the whimsical Rigiaa on a well-developed hiking trail. The path takes you through wildly romantic forest sections with views of impressive Nagelfluh rock formations to the restaurant Dächli, further to Blätzen, and following the path to Arth-Goldau station, where you can comfortably spend the night.
Goldau - Wildspitz – Sattel – Mostelberg From Goldau SBB, we use the underpass and follow the signposts. Through the north exit, you reach Centralstrasse, which you follow until it merges into Parkstrasse. This is crossed, and you arrive at Rossbergstrasse (signpost). Through a new settlement, you reach Bergstrasse, which is also crossed. The Bergweg directional signs show us the way. After the premises of the Garaventa cable car company, the climb begins. We hike along the edge of the Tennmatt estate to the stream; at the little bridge, the side is changed. In a short time, you reach Härzigwald. On the hiking trail laid out in various hairpin bends, you reach the Spitzibüel estate. Below the buildings, you reach Flurstrasse, which connects Goldau with the farms in Spitzibüel. There, we keep left, and the street takes us in the shortest time to the next signpost. We gladly leave the paved street behind. Steeply ascending next to the stream, we enter the alp. Keeping left, the ridge is reached, which we also follow up to Ochsenboden. Then it goes along the ridge over the Gnipen to Wildspitz, where a beautiful mountain inn with a great view awaits. After the well-deserved break, it goes down over Halsegg to Sattel. The revolving gondola "Stuckli Rondo" takes you to Mostelberg, where you can spend the night at the Mostelberg mountain inn or Berggasthaus Herrenboden.
Mostelberg – Hagenegg - Holzegg - Illgau – Muotathal
From Mostelberg, the panorama path leads around Engelstock via Mostelegg up to Haggenegg. From the Herrenboden inn, it goes directly towards Hagenegg. Behind the two imposing Mythen, it continues to Holzegg. From Holzegg, it goes towards Rotenflue with a wonderful view of the Schwyz basin, Lake Lucerne, Lake Lauerz, and the foothills. On well-developed paths, the route continues across Müsliegg/Zwäcken to the Ibergeregg pass. From there, it continues to Sternegg via Oberberg to Illgau. From the idyllic mountain village of Illgau at 800 m above sea level, a signpost above the village core shows you the way along the road towards Muotathal. The “old Chiläwäg” was restored a few years ago by retired hiking friends. Behind the gravel depot, the path first goes uphill a bit before descending steeply through a forest past a magnificent waterfall. At the valley floor in Tristel at the Vita Parcours, a generously laid-out fire pit awaits you on the Muota bank. Following the hiking trail along the Muota upstream, you reach the village of Muotathal at 610 m above sea level in a short time. After about 45 minutes, you reach the accommodation Hüttenhotel Husky-Lodge on the beautiful Muota dam.
Muotathal – Stoos – Ridge hiking trail Klingen – Fronalpstock – Stoos
From the Husky Lodge at 650 m above sea level, you hike a short distance back along the Muota to the Hintere Brücke bus stop. From there, the hiking trail leads a short way along the impressive Hüribach towards Frutt. Via Höch Weidli through the shady forest north around Schwarzstock, you reach Wannentritt at 1596 m with an impressive view towards the Chaiserstock chain. The path continues over Laubgarten, then along the gravel road to Trölligen, where there is the possibility to refresh yourself at the alpine farm. From there, you stroll comfortably through the beautiful Chruterenwald towards Stoos at 1300 m above sea level to the valley station of the Klingenstock chairlift, with which you can elegantly shorten the 600 metres of ascent to Klingenstock. The hiking trail continues via Stoos Hüttä and Holibrig to the Metzg, where a few alpine huts are lined up. On the gravel road, it continues past the wooden buildings until a path branches off to the right and leads over steep alpine meadows to the Klingenstock summit. From there, you hike on the well-developed path with permanent 360-degree panoramic views from the starting point Klingenstock via Rot Turm towards Nollen. Behind Huserstock, a short path carved into the rock zigzags down to Furggeli. The path requires sure-footedness but is wide enough everywhere for two people to pass each other. At the alpine hut in Furggeli, a small 200-metre ascent begins to the highest restaurant in the canton of Schwyz on the Fronalpstock summit. From there, you can take the cable car back to the mountain village of Stoos or walk back to the village via the Fronalpstock viewing path in about an hour. The viewing path offers a spectacular view of the Schwyz basin and a large part of the Schwyz valley and peak route.
Stoos – Morschach - Brunnen
Morschach can be reached quickly and easily from Stoos by cable car and a short half-hour walk. Or you can prefer a beautiful hike downhill along a gravel road and through the mixed forests on the northwest flank of Fronalpstock. Almost at the bottom, at the signpost, you decide on a short detour to the country restaurant Nägelisgärtli or continue on the Morschach panorama path. This takes you via Lourdes Grotto right into the village of Morschach. Morschach lies on the Path of Switzerland, which leads from Rütli to the destination Brunnen. From Morschach, you join the path, which gently climbs to the Axenstein viewpoint. The small terrace offers a magnificent view of Lake Lucerne and across to Schillerstein, which stands in the water on the shore of the other side of the lake. From there, it goes through a cosy and well-developed path through the forest towards Brunnen, the tourist resort on Lake Lucerne, where the magnificent steamboats dock, you might enjoy a fine ice cream, and then start your way home from Brunnen station.
