Description
The Roseg Valley is an alpine high and left side valley of the Val Bernina. It is traversed by the Ova da Roseg river, which is crossed several times on the Roseg Valley trail. The start is located at the Pontresina train station. Along the frozen river, the trail leads through open meadows and larch forests. Three-thousand-meter peaks of the Upper Engadin rise on both sides. If you take a break, you might observe chamois feeding on the opposite slope or feed the tame birds at the bird feeding station in the last third of the trail. After the steady ascent, you have earned a rest at the Restaurant Roseg.
On the cozy sunny terrace, you enjoy the view of the glaciated peaks of Piz Sella, Cima Sondrio, Piz Glüschaint, La Muongia, and Il Chapütschin. The restaurant is located at the end of the picturesque floodplain of the Ova da Roseg, which meanders gently in the open valley basin lined with larch forest. At the end of the valley is the glacier lake Lej da Vadret, which has formed in recent years due to melting ice masses.
The return route to Pontresina, the northernmost valley town of the Bernina Pass in Val Bernina, is fortunately no longer strenuous. A few double poles strokes and you are back at the starting point.
