Description

Saanenmöser lies on the (probably hardly noticed by many) watershed between the Saane and Simme rivers. While the waters of the Chouflisbach flow into the Saane, on the other hand the Kleine Simme turns to the Simme, which joins with the Kander to flow into Lake Thun. About halfway between Laupen and Aarberg, the two waters meet again in the Aare. From the station on the Bergsträsschen at the Golfhotel les Hauts de Gstaad, past and along the Bergmattegräbli uphill to the Bergmatte, where the Schönried–Abländschen route crosses. Now turn onto a forest road downhill. This winds upwards in several loops to the Alp Grossi Vorschess (according to the map Planihubel–Rellerligrat 1h10, mountain hiking trail). Slightly above the alpine huts, a forest road branches off to the Planialpen, where during summer the "Suffsunntig," a traditional alpine festival in Saanenland (often connected with a mountain sermon), is celebrated. Local delicacies such as "suri u süessi Nidle," "Schluck" (fresh curdled milk), "Chüechleni," "Hamme," "g’hobleta u linda Saanechies" (cheese), "g’haahigs Brot" (butter braid bread), and "Nidelgaffi" (coffee with cooked cream) are also offered. The name "Suffsunntig" is said to come from the comfortable indulgence in these dairy dishes. More likely, however, it derives from the "Suffi," which is the reheated whey left after cheese and curd have been removed, previously served to every guest. The forest road to the Rellerli now turns into the wooded hollow of the Hugeli and gently rises after the alpine hut to the mountain house and the former upper station of the gondola on the Rellerligrat. Here one could spend hours immersed in the magnificent panoramic view. Over a scenic but steep pasture path, you descend to the trail junction at the Gspan in just under half an hour (to Roti Egg–Saanen 1h20). A gently rising forest road leads to the alpine hut Unders Rellerli, winding in wide loops over alpine pastures and through forest down to Bodme. The deep view towards Schönried has long announced the hiking destination (to Saanenmöser 40 min).
