Description

The main ridge of the Rätikon rises with steep limestone walls from green grassy slopes and scree fields. The highest peak of the area is the Schesaplana (2964 m), with a small glacier on the north side. Alternately we walk north of the ridge in Austria and south of it in Switzerland, with the beautiful Lünersee always as the centre point. The bizarre limestone formations of the Sulzfluh resemble a lunar landscape. If all goes well, we climb the Sulzfluh (2818 m) and the Schesaplana. In clear weather, you can see as far as the Bernina massif, approximately 80 km as the crow flies. The Lindauerhütte where we stay overnight lies in a beautiful larch forest. Of course, we will admire the alpine garden here. There is a good chance of encountering groups of chamois along the way. Although much of the route is on well-trodden paths, the tour contains one or two challenging sections secured with cables. For the beginner mountain walker, it is important to have a sure footing.
