Description

This route is ideal for true snow enthusiasts. It offers all the nuances of nature; relaxing peace and fantastic views. With some luck, you may encounter the tracks of a fox or hare. The starting board is located 50 meters from the mountain station of the Wirzweli cable car, next to the Wirzweli mountain chapel, and runs for about one kilometer parallel to the "Winterwald" trail until the junction towards Wirzwelihorn (1,471 m above sea level). The ascent is worthwhile because the well-deserved panorama of the Central Swiss and Glarus Alps is breathtaking and quickly makes you forget the effort. In good weather, you can even see the Säntis.

Then continue through the forest, past the "split cliff," and gently with a slight ascent over the ridge to the highest point of the route, the Gummenalp. If you have had enough of the distance covered, take the small 6-person aerial cableway from the Gummenalp to Eggwald and walk from the valley station about 15 minutes back to the starting point in Wirzweli. The second option to return to Wirzweli is the "Tannenpfad" trail. The walking time here is 2 hours since the path is taken backwards, contrary to the above-mentioned trail description.
