Description

Starting from Giswil, we explore the Sarneraa Valley with its lakes and ride along the left shore of Lake Sarnersee. Passing Wilen, you soon reach the cantonal capital with its partly historic buildings such as the Hexenturm and Landenberg. After Sarnen, a beautiful nature trail follows the Sarneraa towards Lake Wichelsee. Here you can experience the diversity of protected nature and see many animals, which will surely delight the children. After Lake Wichelsee, there is a short climb (approx. 150 m) up to Siebeneich. From there, turn left onto the many paths of the Kernwald, which separates the two cantons of Obwalden and Nidwalden. In this lovely forest, signs lead to Lake Gerzensee. The return route goes through the village of Kerns, branches off at the roundabout towards Melchsee Frutt, and after about 150 m turns right towards Flüeli Ranft. Before the first climb, the path turns right again, passing a nursery, and shortly thereafter you can enjoy a lovely descent through a beautiful valley along the large Melchaa back to Sarnen. The motorway in Sarnen is passed through an underpass. After about 100 m, a bridge crosses the motorway and the route follows this road to the Rütimattli junction. Following the road offers a beautiful view of Lake Sarnersee and the valley. After the village of Sachseln, the normal road leads back towards Giswil to the starting point.
