Description
The Cave di Arzo are more than just striking rock formations. They are a place where stories and human lives have taken shape over centuries. For nearly 700 years, generations of quarrymen and stonemasons worked these slopes, leaving a lasting mark on the region. To keep their memory alive, the Sentiero del marmo (Marble trail) was created: a scenic educational trail that winds through the ancient quarries scattered across the Poncione di Arzo, featuring interpretive panels that offer insights into the site's rich cultural and geological heritage.
As you follow the Marble trail along the slopes of the Poncione di Arzo, you will discover a landscape shaped by both nature and human hands. For centuries, workers extracted the prized marble of Arzo here. Today, nature is gradually reclaiming the area, blending greenery with the visible traces of ancient activity.
Along the way, educational panels share the story of the quarries, traditional extraction techniques, and the lives of those who once worked here, giving voice to a craft that deeply shaped this land.
Walking through the quarries means immersing yourself in a deeply evocative environment, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
