Description
The route begins in the village of Agno, the gateway to Malcantone. The gentle hilly region, extending from the shores of Lake Ceresio up to Monte Lema, is dotted with ancient chestnut groves, narrow mountain paths, and carpets of ferns. From the Agno train station, making a wide curve, the route crosses the attractive municipal park. Numerous benches invite you to pause while the gaze extends over the deep blue waters of Lake Lugano and the wooded hills.
After crossing the river, you reach the Agno beach and continue along the shore on a wide wooden walkway, enjoying the splendid view of the surrounding villages. Continuing along the lakeside, the route leads to Magliaso. The small town developed below the Church of San Quirico along the old communication route Varese - Ponte Tresa - Monte Ceneri. In the past at Magliaso, many farms and mills stood along the irrigation channel, characteristic of the pre-industrial economy. Above the town tower the ruins of the San Giorgio castle, built in the Middle Ages.
The path winds through the residential area, crosses the Magliasina stream, and, bordering the golf course, continues to Caslano. The lakeside square is the ideal place to pause and enjoy the "dolce vita". Walking through the beautiful colorful alleys of the old village center, you continue towards the station.
