Description
This canoe route crosses the tranquil Untersee in two stages. Separated from the large Obersee, the 'Swabian Sea,' by the Seerhein, the Untersee has its very own charms. This is not only true for paddlers; every year up to 250,000 migratory birds use the shallow waters and extensive reed landscapes as winter quarters or stops on their journey. Especially in autumn, one paddles amidst huge flocks of birds - an exhilarating experience. Therefore, particularly considerate behavior is required in this nature paradise.
Even the pile dwellers settled in this region due to the balanced climate and rich fish stocks. And to this day, a diverse and worthwhile cultural landscape has developed. From the charming Gottlieben with its half-timbered houses and the Dragon Castle to the Franciscan monastery on the Werd Islands to the thousand-year-old Stein am Rhein, there is much to discover from the boat.
