Description

Welcome to the Interregio hiking trail! Together we explore the tri-border area between Switzerland, France, and Germany and discover a fascinating and varied part of Europe! The three major hiking associations of the region, the trails of both Basels, the Vosges Club, and the Black Forest Association, have jointly cared for this cross-border path since the 1980s, which has now been revised and newly marked to invite you to discover the tri-border region!

The starting point of the 8th stage, Rodersdorf (372 m above sea level) in the Swiss canton of Solothurn, extends deeply into Alsace and is itself an enclave within the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The state border with France encloses 88 percent of the municipal boundary. Even the Basel tram line 10 passes through French territory up to the terminus Rodersdorf via the stop at Leymen station. Thus, it is considered the longest international tram line and the second longest in Europe. From the French border, the Interregio hiking trail coincides with the ViaJura Regio (Hiking Route 41). It leads through the Alsatian Sundgau to the medieval town of Ferrette (German Pfirt), the main town of the County of Pfirt. Even today, the Prince of Monaco still calls himself Count of Pfirt.

Notable sights are the Hohenpfirt castle ruins east of the town as well as the partially Gothic Church of Saint-Bernard de Menthon.
