Description

The starting point of the Hohfad hike is Engelberg train station. Between the houses you walk to the Sportingpark and further through an avenue to the Bänklialp bridge. Here the river Engelberger Aa is crossed. Along the left bank of the river you follow the Professors' Path for about half an hour until the gravel road narrows and starts to rise. Below the path you can watch the golfers playing before the path turns right into the forest. From here it gets really steep. In between, kicks help you to master the steepest parts. Thanks to the shade of the trees you won't sweat after the first steps. But let's face it, the ascent is definitely worth it. Suddenly the forest thins out and you stand on a high plateau. The breathtaking view of the village and the surrounding mountains makes you forget the exertions of the last 45 minutes. This place, with the Titlis north face behind you, is recommended for a picnic. Already there you can hear the next highlight of the tour. In the course of the Hundsbach stream, small tubs are formed, which invite you to take a bath with their crystal clear water. But beware, the creek is fed by the glacier. The tour continues to the alp Bödmen, where you can meet llamas with a little luck . Here the descent towards Herrenrüti begins, from where you follow the hiking trail to the Fürenalp valley station. From here you have the option of taking the free summer bus back to the starting point at Engelberg train station, or you can hike over the golf course and along the Professors' Trail back to the village.
