Description
The Höh invites you to an attractive circular hike. From Kandersteg station, head north towards the dam. The riverside path along the steaming Kander is charming, whose bankside woodland is dusted with sparkling hoarfrost crystals on cold winter days. After passing under the Lötschberg railway line at the dam, first on a paved road, then branching off onto a forest path uphill. The sparse rays of winter sun, especially valued in Kandersteg due to the high surrounding mountains, often only penetrate the dense forest briefly during the ascent. When walking the marked winter hiking path, follow the pink signs that lead to the Höh location. From there, a short detour to the Höh viewpoint is worthwhile, offering a charming view of Kandersteg and the surrounding peaks. Through woodland and along the forest edge, it goes down on quiet forest paths to the houses of Bütschels. There turn left towards the railway line and follow it to Kandersteg station, which you reach through the extended platform underpass.
Please note that the "Höh" route is partly shared for cross-country skiing, hiking, riding, and snowshoeing!
