Description
At Hallwyl Castle, one of the most beautiful and romantic water castles in Switzerland, where history can be experienced on its original site, the hike begins. The castle dates back to the 12th century and was built by the Lords of Hallwyl, a noble family from Aargau.
Following the Aabach downstream, you hike across green fields and along short forest sections. Soon, the stream begins to wind in tight curves through the hilly landscape. Upon arriving in Lenzburg, you will discover the impressive building of the same name on the right side. The complex dates back to the 11th century and was later owned by the Habsburgs. Today, it is one of the most beautiful and significant hill castles in Switzerland, towering on the castle hill above the historic old town. From Lenzburg Castle, you can already see your next destination: the stately Wildegg Castle. The path leads nearby through the districts of Niederlenz and up to the castle. Once at the top, the baroque garden and exciting exhibitions fascinate visitors.
