Description
The route starts from the village of Grono and heads towards the Nadro area, then continues along the Strada vegia. Just below the village of Castaneda, between the cantonal road connecting the valley floor to Castaneda and the old forest road that linked the valley floor to the inner Calanca, there are remains of old mills. The hike continues along via Capela del Scer, parallel to the cantonal road above, until reaching Santa Maria in Calanca, a village dominated by a charming architectural complex that includes a medieval tower and the parish church. This part of the route will offer beautiful panoramic views of the Mesolcina valley floor. Then it heads towards the village of Verdabbio, passing through dense chestnut woods, and continues descending towards Leggia, where after crossing the Moesa river, the walk continues along lush country roads. Soon you reach the Pascolet floodplain, a recreational area where numerous species of fish, amphibians, and birds can be seen. Finally, the Moesa river is crossed a second time to return to the center of the village of Grono.
