Description
An impressive mountain landscape awaits hikers in the Reuss valley between Göschenen and Altdorf. On the 32-kilometer-long Gottardo hiking route, there are numerous historically valuable objects to admire. Information panels are spread along the entire route. In the first kilometers, you learn interesting and curious facts about the history of the Gotthard mountain railway.
From the observation platform near the little church of Wassen, you watch the trains climbing the narrow valley thanks to the loop tunnels. Between Gurtnellen and Amsteg, you cross the Felliboden suspension bridge. On the way from Amsteg to the railway village Erstfeld, you admire the highest bridge of the SBB and unknowingly pass over the former Federal Council bunker.
In Erstfeld, the new 8-kilometer-long section begins, which leads hikers to the station in Altdorf and is entirely dedicated to new means of transport. From the NEAT observation platform, you enjoy an impressive view of the Urner Reuss plain and its transport carriers. The last section leads you through a popular recreational area along the Urner Reuss.
