Description
The Upper Engadin plateau is a lake plateau lined with larch forests in the middle of the alpine three-thousand-meter landscape with Lake St. Moritz, where the Glacier Bike Tour starts.
Heading towards Bever, it goes flat across the wide plateau along the Inn River, which rises here in the Engadin. In La Punt, the altitude gain finally begins – it goes up to the Albula Pass, the first of three passes on the Glacier Bike Tour. If possible, you should avoid riding on weekends and in high season.
The Albula Pass is a historic and one of the most beautiful passes in Switzerland. Accompanied by the concert of marmot whistles, you wind your way through the mighty panorama up to 2,315 m – not yet the highest point of the Glacier Bike Tour.
Bergün awaits as a neat village with old Engadin houses decorated with sgraffiti and oriels. Such a perfect setting that the first Heidi film was shot here in the early 1950s, as well as a new version in 2015.
