Description
Only 15 minutes from Mendrisio you reach the enchanting village of Bruzella located at 593 m. This place represents the starting and finishing point of our route. From the church located in the village center we walk a short stretch along the main road towards Cabbio. After 200 m we take the old mule track which will lead us into the suggestive valley floor carved by the Breggia river. We continue our route crossing the bridge and climbing the hairpin bends towards Casima. Heading to the northern side of the village we pass by the church then, subsequently, cross the main road and continue along the path characterized by meadows, forests, streams and suggestive panoramic views of the valley. A short climb brings us from the shaded ditch "Valletta" to the meadow "Tur dell'Alpe". Passing by the alpine farms, keeping to the right, we continue towards the small church of San Giovanni. Crossing the stream a second time we reach at 661 m the delightful village of Muggio. South of the church a path branches off to the right from the main road of the village towards Cabbio, a village hosting the Ethnographic Museum of the Valle di Muggio (MEVM). We cross the village and to the south, once passed the main road, we continue on a wide path in the direction of the Bruzella Mill, an ancient restored and functioning millstone. In addition to the possibility of visiting the Mill from April to October, every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon and usually three Sundays per month you can buy the artisanal polenta flour produced on site. To return to our starting point we walk along the path, which after a short climb leads us back to Bruzella.
